Probably taken while on leave prior to being shipped out to Viet Nam. He was in the 1st Cavalry Division, 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry and was tied to an artillery brigade.

Michael wanted me to be his best man, but I declined because I did not feel that I deserved the title but rather suggested that Michael Tani should be as Michael Tani was his best friend through the thick and the thin!

While I dreaded sitting for this photo shoot by a local professional photographer, I am glad that it was done. At this time the grandparents were gone and we were all that remained. My dad was mobile though using a cane as his leg started giving him problems walking. He had recovered from having broken his leg in an auto accident in Colorado and we thought that it had not healed right. Michael and Nancy were well established in their home in San Pedro and were both doing well.

Michael was a big Sherlock Holmes fan and always wanted to travel to England. In the early 1980s he and his wife made the trip to not only tour the country but to trace back any of the roots of the family as there are Scottish ancestors in our lineage.

This species occurs as a group. This type of occurrence and the structure of the leaves and the presence of the awls at the leaf tips enable this colony of moss to withstand dessication.

A large sized erect moss species that is generally a tall growing plant in the Pacific Northwest but grows shorter in drier spots.

The other major type of moss are the prostrate mosses. These form spreading mats that cover the forest floor and fallen logs and branches.

Growing packed into a cup with distilled water being added as needed to fill up to the rim, Sphagnum is a very easy moss to grow.

Really different from the notion of a moss this denizen of bogs and very wet places has developed an unusual set of physical characteristics that enable it to survive its cool wet habitats.

Unlike Sphagnum that requires a constantly damp to emersed habitat to survive, this moss that seems to have some Sphagnum characteristics is a terrestrial species.

While similar to some moss genera, leafy liverworts are members of the Marchantiophyta not of the true mosses, the Bryophyta.

While obviously not a moss, this bryophyte, any moss or moss-like plant, is the most commonly encountered liverwort, often occurring as a weed species in plant nurseries.

Meet Granek. This is the opening page to a Star Wars related comic that I had begun in 2002. This appeared in Split/Image November 2002. It is the story of a Gamorrean Guard who through a chance encounter with Luke Skywalker has an awakening experience and seeks to emulate Jedi qualities. Never have had the time to complete it.
